On August 21 and 22, the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Children’s Foundation held its annual “ Your school bag like everyone else ” event, an essential initiative for families in our region. This year, 341 children from preschool to grade 6, from 196 families spread over 23 different municipalities, received all the equipment they needed to start the school year in the best possible conditions.

Each child received a complete set of new items, including a backpack, a lunch box, a pencil case, a pair of sneakers, a fall coat, a pair of winter boots, a snowsuit with a hat, mittens and neck warmer, as well as a certificate covering school supplies and another covering a good portion of school fees. This support, with a total value of almost $1,000 per child, is much more than just material aid; it enables the children to start their school year without stigma, with confidence and dignity.

The impact of this event cannot be measured in numbers alone. Seeing the joy in the children’s eyes as they choose their supplies, or watching a little girl jump at the neck of a volunteer after finding the perfect pair of boots, these are the moments of pure happiness that illustrate the importance of this initiative. As for the parents, they express their deep gratitude, relieved to see their children ready to start the school year without worry.

This event is made possible thanks to the invaluable collaboration of numerous partners and volunteers. The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de la Montérégie-Ouest (CISSS MO) played a key role in coordination, while the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion generously lent the hall for distribution. Hamster Les Éditions Vaudreuil provided school supplies, Sports Experts contributed clothing, and Moisson Sud-Ouest also added school supplies and little surprises for the children.

Among the many volunteers, one stood out, aged around 12. Accompanying her volunteer mother, she was involved throughout her presence, taking care to place the items on the tables and handing out boots. This young girl, who ended the day by replacing the chairs where families were waiting, embodies the spirit of solidarity and dedication that drives this event. She deserves the title of volunteer of the day… and of the future.

This collective outpouring of generosity enables the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Children’s Foundation to continue making a tangible difference in the lives of children and families in our region. Together, let’s build a more equitable and inclusive future for all. ♥️
